5 things you can
do to help prepare
for a heatwave.

Number one in a circle icon

Check fans and
air-conditioners are
working well and get
them serviced

Being able to cool your home during a heatwave is crucial. Make sure everything is working before you enter the summer months.

Number two in a circle icon

Choose curtains that
can reflect heat

Use curtains with pale linings in rooms that get a lot of sunlight to help reflect the heat.

Number three in a circle icon

Think about adding
shutters or shading to
windows that face west

The sun sets in the west which is why rooms that face this way often become the hottest. Consider putting shading, such as external blinds or shutters, on windows in rooms that face in this direction.

Number four in a circle icon

Prepare a cool room
in your house

Use air conditioning, fans, curtains and blinds to create a cool room in your home for when a heatwave is at its most intense.

Number five in a circle icon

Make sure your house
can properly manage
its temperature
without compromising
security

Insulation in the ceiling and walls is a great way to do this and will help keep your house cool.
